Letting Go

There is a place of peace deep inside each of us.  I know this because I have reached it, although I find it difficult to maintain in my everyday life.

A Course in Miracles teaches us to “open the curtain in your practicing by merely letting go all things you think you want.”   When I go into meditation I consciously let go of all societal attachments:  mortgage/rent payments, employer obligations, family obligations, credit card bills, and future financial security/retirement.

…I consciously let go of all societal attachments:  mortgage/rent payments, employer obligations, family obligations, credit card bills, and future financial security/retirement…

As we follow our breath in our meditation practice, we can put a “soft focus” on this concept of letting go.  It is like releasing a rope or the feeling of something falling away from you.

I can release these things because in that moment I believe that they are constructs of society, not my rules.  In that moment of release, it is just me, no accepted obligations, no imposed expectations.

In the same lesson ACIM also teaches “you can exchange all suffering for joy this very day.”  The temptation to let our lives be ruled by programmed beliefs is great.  We have been living for so long this way in the matrix, it is hard to believe there is another way.  Through our “practice” of conscious release we can increase the moments we are in peace.

Through our “practice” of conscious release we can increase the moments we are in peace.

The concept of letting go or conscious release seems so obvious.  But the habits and ways of thinking about attachments are engrained and very hard to shake, making it difficult to remember this way to peace.  So, I encourage you to write down the elements of your daily meditation practice.  Maybe you have intentions you would like to remember?

Do you have a dedicated time each day for meditation practice?  Focused and undisturbed practice time can be beautiful.  Have you thought about getting to peace at other times during the day?  It is possible for us to take a minute or two here and there to come out of our unconscious day to day and go into relaxed calm.  Change it up to include a minute during your day and see what happens.  Hey!  Maybe this minute right now is a good time to practice letting go.  ☺
