The World is a Mirror
Is it possible that our world is based on our thoughts? That our world is a direct reflection of what is going on inside us?
For me, I sometimes have trouble finding appreciation and gratitude for my life. It is during these times when the world seems unfair, with the odds stacked against me. Comments from well-meaning people add fuel to the fire by reinforcing my sense of lack. In these moments I feel fear and depression. But wait, all is not lost! 🌞
Recently, I was in such a state, and was journaling to find out more. I asked myself to list what I was grateful for.
What I was most grateful for was the knowledge and awareness I have. This gave me peace, and I felt appreciation. You may say, “yes John, but peace can’t buy you a loaf of bread!” I agree. There is a balance between our inner world and the realities of the outer world. We can take our time to find our peace and provide for ourselves as well.
How and what we think determines our perception of the world. It is my fear and depression that make my world dark, caused by limiting beliefs like scarcity of resources in a dog-eat-dog world or “it has to be hard to be worthwhile.”
It is the times that we feel stress and conflict, or anxiety or depression, that signal our programming is not serving us. This is the time to get to the root of the issue.
We can adopt new programming, and yes, it does take some work and effort. I have found meditation to be effective at digging to the root. I started meditating seven years ago with the app Headspace, starting at just a few minutes a day. Not long after starting I committed to stopping at a bank parking lot after my hour commute, early morning, and take fifteen minutes to myself. Now I take an hour a day to meditate. The more you practice the easier it gets (and the more benefits you see). By finding quiet in your head, you can have a “weather report” and home in on feelings and their causes. Over time you can replace the limiting beliefs. Emotional Freedom Technique, or Tapping is also a simple, effective way to address emotions and the beliefs causing them.[1]
Is fifteen minutes a day worth experiencing peace and positively affecting the people around you?
You are worth a few minutes a day, or even fifteen minutes, of quiet time or meditation. This includes shutting off phone and computer, no outside world interference. It is up to you to set these boundaries. What do you think? Is fifteen minutes a day worth experiencing peace and positively affecting the people around you? As one of the people around you, I vote yes! 😉
By adjusting our perception, through meditation or another tool like tapping, we can nurture our vision of things going our way, of positivity in the world. The world around us will change when we address the beliefs and emotions around the perceptions of what we are sensing.
That’s right, my friends, to change perception is that powerful - we can change the world!
